Read more to know about Virat Kohli’s disciplined diet and workout routine that keeps him fit and ageless
As Virat Kohli turns 37, one thing about him remains unchanged; his unbelievable fitness. The cricketer, often praised for his consistency on the field, has become an inspiration off it too. Over the years, he has transformed his lifestyle with precision, self-control and an approach that goes beyond vanity. For Kohli, fitness is not a phase but a way of life, built on discipline, patience and a deep understanding of what works best for his body.
Finding balance in fitness
Kohli’s fitness journey has been one of learning through trial and error. He once shared that when he began focusing on fitness, he tried everything possible, from supplements and extra hydration to protein-heavy diets, until he discovered what truly suited his system. That’s when he realised that balance is the key to staying consistent.
For Kohli, food turned out to be the real challenge, not the gym sessions. He believes that physical training is the easier part, while eating right requires mental strength. Cravings and comfort food, he says, can easily derail progress if one isn’t careful. What keeps him on track is a sharp focus on discipline — he can have the same meals three times a day for months without feeling bored.
What’s on his plate
Kohli’s daily meals are simple, light and nourishing. Nearly all his food is either steamed or boiled, seasoned only with salt, pepper and a squeeze of lime.
He prefers eating clean rather than indulging in heavy flavours. His favourites include crisp salads with minimal dressing and pan-grilled dishes cooked with olive oil. While he stays away from spicy curries, he does enjoy lentils, and being Punjabi, he never skips his comfort foods — rajma and lobhiya.
The turning point
In 2018, Kohli faced a health setback when acidity and high uric acid levels began troubling him. Doctors also detected calcium loss in his bones, which made him rethink his diet entirely. That’s when he decided to give up meat and switch to a vegetarian lifestyle. The change, he says, made him feel lighter and more energetic, both physically and mentally.
Though he avoids fried food and dishes rich in masala, Kohli is not a strict vegan. He still consumes dairy products in moderation, preferring to keep his meals balanced rather than restrictive.
The power of discipline
What sets Kohli apart is not just his workout routine but his mindset. He doesn’t chase trends or flavours; instead, he focuses on what fuels his body best. His meals might be repetitive, but his results speak for themselves — strong, agile and unstoppable at 37.
