Baltimore City is accepting applications from people interested in bringing vacant homes back to life.

The city’s Buy Into Bmore Fixed Pricing Program offers city-owned vacant houses for as cheap as $1. Officials held a webinar information session on Thursday.

Felicia Taylor was one of more than 150 people who logged on.

“Just to see all the buildings and things that are unoccupied or uninhabitable and are just sitting there, it hurts to know that people could be living in those,” she said.

Taylor is a realtor and said she has many clients who are interested.

“I have one young lady that would like to buy and renovate them and either resell them or rent them out. I have some clients that would like to buy and live in them,” she said.

City officials said the properties are first available, from now until the end of June, to Baltimore City residents who intend on using them as a primary residence and can provide proof of funding for the rehabilitation — at least $90,000.

“All vacant sales must be redeveloped for residential or mixed-use. That includes residential or green space. So, this program is not for commercial properties. It’s only for residential properties at this point in time,” Department of Housing and Community Development official Kate Edwards said.

In July, the program will open to all interested parties. You must submit an application and be approved to purchase a home.

Taylor said the program is perfect for first-time homebuyers. She believes it will change Baltimore City for the better.

“Let’s get in these neighborhoods and fix these places up and get people in there. Families, first-time homebuyers, people that deserve a home, let’s get them in there,” she said.

There is another webinar scheduled for April 24. You can learn more by clicking here.
